Crop Post Harvest and processing Management
Crop Post-Harvest and Processing Management division is responsible for implementing national Agricultural policy sub sequenced within Strategic Plan for agricultural transformation PSTA. The division focuses on development and dissemination of post-harvest technologies to reduce losses, improve the quality of produce and ensure market competitiveness.
Crop Post-Harvest and Processing Management division has two components; the first focusing on postharvest handling through post-harvest infrastructures, technologies development and dissemination and the second focusing on research on crop Processing, Quality/value addition and Nutritional preservation of agriculture products to increase the shelf life and the quality of foods. To effectively achieve its objectives, Post-Harvest and Processing Management division partners with varies stakeholders, including farmers, different Ministries and their agencies, local authorities, civil society organizations, private sector; local & international development partners.

Division Manager for Crop Postharvest and Processing Management
She has Msc in Agriculture and Agri-Food (Market, Organization, Quality and Services in Southern Countries’ Agriculture) from l’Institut d’Agro Montpellier/France. She is the Division Manager for Crop Postharvest and Processing Management at RAB where she leads efforts in ensuring food security by improving harvest handling and reducing losses. She has expertise in agriculture and Agri-Food both in developed and developing countries, agriculture policy development, and carries experience in leadership management, including projects design and management which aim at improving beneficiaries’ livelihood.
The Crop Processing and Food Quality Program conduct research on Processing, Quality/value addition and Nutritional preservation of agriculture products to increase the shelf life and the quality of foods. The products can be of use in food industry for income generation.

The protocols are developed to train farmers/cooperatives on processing technologies, Food safety/Aflatoxins and Fumonisin awareness and mitigation, and Nutrition improvement using nutrients dense foods through Nutrition Sensitive Agriculture and cooking demonstration.

Dr Marguerite Niyibituronsa is a PhD holder in food science and Nutrition from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Nairobi, Kenya with research placement at Biosciences eastern and central Africa – International Livestock Research Institute (BecA-ILRI), Nairobi, Kenya; at Ghent University, Belgium sponsored by African Women in Agriculture Research and Development (AWARD) Advanced Sciences Training; at Oil Crops Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Wuhan, China sponsored by Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). She is working at Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board since 1998 and my research work mainly focus on processing of agricultural products and food safety, especially Mycotoxins analysis in different commodities for Aflatoxin awareness and mitigation, thus, improve health status in the community. she has experience, as a Research Method specialist, in institutional project conception, implementation and reporting; in Framework development for monitoring and evaluation of projects; Data and information management; Statistical analysis using SPSS, GenStat; she attend seminars and training on developing good proposals, scientific reports; she has 13 publications and more than 16 extension materials developed and disseminated for processing technologies, Aflatoxins and Fumonisin awareness and mitigation, and Nutrition improvement using nutrients dense foods through Nutrition sensitive Agriculture. With the experience of 25 years (by June 2023) in the RAB Institution and continuous learning, now she works towards achievement of the tasks in the position of Crop Processing and Food Quality Management program coordinator, Senior Research Fellow in collaboration with other institutions local and international. |
