Nyagatare Station
Nyagatare RAB Station is amongst the 13 RAB Stations distributed in the four provinces and Kigali City. It is located in the Eastern Province of Rwanda, and the offices are located in Nyagatare District, Nyagatare Sector, Nyagatare Cell, and Nyagatare II Village, 152Km away from Kigali. RAB Nyagatare oversees agriculture and animal resources activities in Nyagatare and Gatsibo Districts with 14 Sectors each. Nyagatare Station, carries out a variety of agriculture research and extension activities which are executed by different programs/projects such as: Cereals; Root and Tubers; Pulses and Oils; both Crop and forage Seed production; Integrated Soil Fertility Management; Ruminant and Veterinary services; Aquaculture and Fisheries and Support services.
All the above-mentioned activities are carried out both on-farm and on-station. On-Station activities are carried out on 4 major experimental sites namely: Mirama, Cyabayaga, Karama and Kagitumba sites. On-farm activities are carried out in Nyagatare and Gatsibo Districts doing both on-farm research through trials and extension services through demonstration plots, capacity building of proximity extension agents and farmers with the main objective of transforming agriculture and animal resources from subsistence to modern farming that increases agriculture productivity. During dry seasons from mid- June to August, Nyagatare and Gatsibo suffers drought that affect crops but mainly cattle.
There is also a satellite laboratory serving in testing animal diseases.
