The HCoE and Fair Planet have jointly launched a project aimed at increasing vegetable productivity
On August 2nd, 2023, Fair Planet, an international non-governmental organization based in Israel, focused on increasing food security and providing economic opportunities for smallholder farmers in developing countries, partnered with the Rwanda-Israel Center of Excellence for Horticulture Development (HCoE), operating under RAB. Together, they held a joint pre-launch event for a project aimed at enhancing vegetable productivity.
The project's objective is to showcase the potential for transforming Rwanda's horticulture sector. It will demonstrate a state-of-the-art methodology for adaptation trials of high-quality vegetable varieties and pilot seed production for priority crops.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Daniel Rwebigo, the head of the Seeds and Fertilizers Division at RAB, commended the collaboration, emphasizing that the project will play a crucial role in improving the standard of living for smallholder farmers and will also lead to a reduction in vegetable prices.
The highly anticipated and groundbreaking 5-year vegetable project received generous funding from the International Seed Federation. The initiative's grand inauguration was a distinguished event graced by notable attendees, including the Israeli Ambassador to Rwanda, H.E. Dr. Ron Adam, among others.
