On October 11, 2023, Dr. Telesphore Ndabamenye, the Director General of the Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board, welcomed a delegation from the Agricultural Genomics Institute at Shenzhen (AGIS). AGIS is a government-supported scientific research organization affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). It is registered and based in Shenzhen, and is actively engaged in various fields including agricultural genomics, molecular breeding in agriculture biology, agriculture and food metagenomics, among others.

The purpose of the visit was to conduct a technical meeting, which was chaired by the DG, to discuss the establishment of the Global Hybrid Potato Alliance and the "Belt and Road" Joint Laboratory. Mr. Jianbin Yan, the leader of the delegation, underscored the significance of the Global Hybrid Potato Alliance in promoting sustainable global agriculture through innovation. The initiative also aims to improve personalized food supply systems and enhance the well-being of farmers.
