The CANALLS Project workshop concludes with a call for commitment to implement the experiential phase of the Kamonyi Agroecology Living Lab.
The Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board, through its CANALLS project, held a workshop meeting on Tuesday, 20th February 2024, focusing on agro-ecology practices in the Kamonyi living lab. Representatives from various organizations attended, including government officials, researchers, university academicians, civil society representatives, farmer cooperatives, and more.
The project aims to drive agro-ecological transitions in Central and Eastern Africa, particularly in Rwanda's Kamonyi district. Key outcomes of the workshop included brainstorming practical agro-ecology solutions, defining target implementation sites, drafting experimental designs, and assigning roles to stakeholders. Dr. Vicky Ruganzu, the project’s focal person at RAB, emphasized the importance of these efforts in enhancing agricultural efficiency and contributing to Rwanda's food security goals.
The workshop set objectives to expand nutrient recycling, test soil erosion practices, identify agroforestry systems, and advocate for government support. It concluded with a commitment to implement the experiential phase, scheduling the next steps, sharing presentations, and distributing commitment forms to participants.
