RAB through CANALLs Project Hosts Partners for a Two-Day Cross-Visit in Kamonyi Living Lab

Huye, Rwanda – October 2, 2025 – The Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB), in partnership with the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and the University of Hohenheim (UHOH), hosted the second Cross-Visit event under the CANALLs project. The two-day event, held from October 2 to 3, 2025, took place at the Kamonyi Agroecological Living Lab (ALL) in the Southern Province of Rwanda.

The Cross-Visit is part of the CANALLs project’s broader objective to enhance knowledge sharing and mutual learning across and beyond Agroecological Living Labs (ALLs). It follows the first Cross-Visit held in Ntui, Cameroon, in May 2025, which successfully brought together project partners to exchange experiences and best practices in agroecological innovation.

The Kamonyi Cross-Visit aimed to provide a platform for participants to share knowledge, exchange experiences, and engage in dialogue on agroecological innovations developed and tested within the Living Lab. The event brought together CANALLs project partners, local stakeholders, farmers, and representatives from research institutions, academia, NGOs, civil society, and the private sector.

During the two-day engagement, participants visited Nyamiyaga and Mugina sectors, where the Kamonyi Living Lab has been piloting two main agroecological practices centered on cassava as the focal crop. These include cassava–legume intercropping systems and integrated soil erosion control measures. The innovations were co-created through a participatory process to address key challenges identified by local stakeholders, such as the effects of climate change and soil degradation.

The Cross-Visit process went beyond the two-day event, encompassing preparation, implementation, and follow-up phases. Each stage was designed to promote reflection, analysis, and continuous learning among participants. Through field visits, interactive discussions, and feedback sessions, the Kamonyi Living Lab event served as a dynamic platform for strengthening collaboration and co-learning across agroecological initiatives within the CANALLs project network.

The CANALLs (Climate-Adapted and Nutrition-Sensitive Agroecological Living Labs) project aims to foster innovation and knowledge exchange across Africa through Living Labs that test and scale agroecological practices contributing to climate resilience, food security, and sustainable livelihoods.
