January 27, 2023 in Rubavu District, Western Province of Rwanda;

The Rwanda Agriculture and Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board teamed up with the UN agency for Food and Agriculture in Rwanda (FAO-Rwanda) to graduate 58 Famer Field School Facilitators, residents of Rubavu District in Nyamyumba, Rugerero, Rubavu, Busasamana, Bugeshi and Cyanzarwe Sector.

During the event, the Director General of RAB, Dr Patrick Karangwa, was joined by the representative of the FAO in Rwanda and the Vice-Mayor of Rubavu District to oversee the graduation ceremony and handover certificate of completion to graduates who completed training on sustainable horticulture production and marketing.

The graduation ceremony is one of the activities implemented by FAO under the joint initiative supported by the UN Secretary General's Peace Building Fund. FAO cooperated with RAB to address agricultural production (mostly for horticultural crops), food security, and market linkage. The training aims to engage the members of 12 promising farmers’ cooperatives in intensifying sustainable horticulture production so that they can increase their production in a professional and profitable manner.

Speaking at the event, Dr Patrick Karangwa, the Director General of RAB, congratulated graduates on completing their coursework and urged them to serve as the driving force behind the growth of market-oriented agriculture in their neighborhoods.

The Farmer Filed School approach provides opportunities for practical group learning, greater observational and analytical skills, and improved local community decision-making for better production, better nourishment, a better environment, and a better living for all.
