RAB and OFAB-Rwanda Award Best Journalists in Agricultural Biotechnology Reporting

On September 15th, 2023, in Kigali City, Rwanda, the Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board, in partnership with Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB), held the second edition of the OFAB Media Awards. During the award ceremony, ten journalists were announced as the best performers, three of whom were recognized as the top performers.

The overall winner was Christophe Uwizeye, affiliated with Radio Salus, the radio station owned by the University of Rwanda. Jean Claude Munyantore, from Kigali Today and KT Radio, was acknowledged as the best performer in the online reporting category, while Divin Uwayo, representing the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency, received the award for best Television journalist.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Telesphore Ndabamenye, Director General of RAB, praised OFAB's efforts in promoting conversations and engagements regarding the safe use of agricultural biotechnology.

The OFAB Rwanda Media Awards, organized in collaboration with RAB, aim to achieve several key objectives, including raising awareness among journalists and media professionals about the significance of agricultural biotechnology and its potential benefits in Rwanda, encouraging journalists to report on agricultural biotechnology accurately, fairly, and responsibly, while avoiding sensationalism and misinformation. Furthermore, it seeks to promote a better understanding of the science behind biotechnology and its applications in agriculture among the general public, among other goals.
