RAB and AATF Host Planning Meeting on Rwanda Agri-Biotech Program

March 12-13, 2026- The Rwanda Agriculture and Animal Resources Development Board (RAB), in collaboration with the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), hosted a two-day meeting aimed at aligning and harmonizing plans for the commercialization, stewardship, and deployment of improved cassava, maize, and potato varieties being developed under the Rwanda Agri-Biotech Program.

The meeting brought together Project Principal Investigators (PIs) and other technical partners to ensure a coordinated approach across all crops involved in the program. The discussions aimed to enhance implementation efficiency and promote a shared understanding of strategies that will guide the delivery of improved crop varieties to farmers.

During the meeting, participants reviewed updates on the progress of ongoing trials for cassava and maize. These sessions provided an opportunity to assess current research results and discuss the next steps required to advance the development of the improved varieties.

The discussions also focused on product delivery and commercialization plans for cassava and maize, exploring how these improved varieties can be effectively introduced, distributed, and scaled up for farmers across the country.

In addition, participants examined product stewardship considerations to ensure the responsible management of improved varieties during their delivery and commercialization across all crops under the program, including cassava, maize, and potato.

Furthermore, the meeting reviewed the Monitoring, Reporting, and Compliance Results Framework, highlighting progress made in simplifying reporting systems and strengthening accountability mechanisms. These discussions aimed to improve coordination among partners and ensure effective tracking of the program’s achievements.
