The exercise to verify personal information and photograph individuals who will receive the Digital ID was launched in the City of Kigali on 7 February 2026. The exercise was launched in the three districts that make up the City of Kigali: Kicukiro, Nyarugenge, and Gasabo, under the leadership of the Director General of the National Identification Agency (NIDA).

This exercise has already been conducted in six districts in the Southern Province and is now continuing in the City of Kigali.

Each district designates two sectors every week where the exercise is carried out. Within each sector, several photo-taking sites may be established depending on the geographical characteristics of the sector and the number of residents.

The exercise is being conducted extensively. In addition to the planned photo-taking sites, additional sites are established based on areas with high concentrations of people, such as bus stations, workplaces with large numbers of employees, and other busy locations. Information about newly established photo-taking sites is communicated regularly.

To ensure that all residents have access to the service, the exercise is not limited to working days. It also continues on Saturdays and Sundays to accommodate employees and other residents who may not be available during weekdays.

The exercise is expected to last seven weeks in Kigali, from 7 February 2026 to 4 April 2026. Residents of Kigali are encouraged to visit the nearest photo-taking sites to verify their information and have their photographs taken.

The registration and photo-taking exercise covers all residents, from newborn babies onwards.
