Crop Protection Program
There is unprecedented insect pests and diseases pressure due to the effects of climate change. These are among the major constraints limiting agricultural productivity, farmers’ income and livelihoods. Therefore, crop protection program focuses its activities on the management of major insect pests and diseases affecting priority crops in the country. The program emphasizes its activities by training frontline extension agents on the management of major pests and diseases; conduct field visits and provide guidance on proper management of major pests and diseases; develop or update extension materials and guidelines for the management of major pests and diseases; produce radio/tv spots or documentary films; conduct surveillance of major pests on priority crops; conduct extension campaign for the management of major pests and diseases and development of technologies for pests and diseases management.
